This Intricate carving is from the Dogon people of central Mali. A thousand years ago, the Dogon established their villages along the Bandiagara Escarpment in order to preserve their culture and religion. They have remained close to their ancestral traditions, and are well known for their unique architecture, mask dances, and wood work.
Traditionally used as granary closures, Dogon doors protect and santify the wood stored within. They feature figures and glyphs that tell many stories, from spiritual appeals to the good life, depictions of the original human tribe, and tokens of prosperity.
This is a rare miniature version of a Dogon door, perfect to hang on your wall. Dimensions: 11x8"
Every purchase provides a livelihood to accomplished artists in Mali and encourages the development of their skills and art.
Great for anyone who appreciates traditional design and wants to support ethically made crafts and environmentally-conscious re-use of old products.
Handcrated - dimensions may vary.
