"Faidherbe School" by Abdoukarim Fall, Painting, African Art

This painting is by Abdoukarim Fall, a contemporary artist based in Saint Louis, Senegal.  It was exhibited as part of an exhibit in St. Louis, MO celebrating both cities. 

The Faidherbe School  (or Lycee Faidherbe) was founded in 1884 when Saint Louis was the capital of French West Africa, from 1872 to 1957.  Now, Saint Louis is a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its beautiful architecture from that era.  And the school still operates, but now known as Lycee Cheikh Omar Foutiyou Tall.

The painting is 51x32".  Painted in acrylic, sand on canvas.
