This painting is by Abdoukarim Fall, a contemporary artist based in Saint Louis, Senegal. It was exhibited as part of an exhibit in St. Louis, MO celebrating both cities.
Baron Jacques-François Roger, the first civil governor of colonial Senegal is said to have built this castle for the eyes of a beautiful Senegalese woman, Yacine Yérim Diaw, whom he would marry. The baron would come to spend his weekends with his wife in this residence reminiscent of the "follies", small castles in the 18th century.
Nearby Saint Louis is a UNESCO World Heritage site, renowned for its beautiful architecture from that era.
The painting is 31x26". Painted in acrylic, sand on canvas.
